HemocyTap is the perfect companion to count cells using a hemocytometer. Count live & dead cells, calculate the cell density, viability & new culture volume, save and send your data via email and plot the evolution over time!

Do your thumbs get tired after tally-counting cells?
Do you feel stupid when you miss the button of the calculator and you have to start all over again?
Do you wish you could have all your counts in a .csv file without typing them yourself? And have it sent instantaneously via email?

HemocyTap is your hemocytometer app! This is what it can do to make your life easier:

Counting:
•use two tally counters, one for live cells and one for dead cells
•each makes a different sound so that you know you pressed the correct one
•keeps track of all the cells you have counted in each square
•change the square you’re counting just as you change the square you see in the microscope
•set the number of squares you want to count by default – they will appear highlighted
•choose to count the big squares or the small squares inside the central square
•*NEW!* Long tap to unselect a square to count

Calculating:
•calculates the average of your counts for you
•gives you the volume you need to add to obtain the desired cell density when subculturing
•displays cell viability and live cell number
•you only have to provide the original volume of your culture, the desired cell density and the dilution
•*NEW!* Choose μL or mL units
•*NEW!* Supports decimal dilutions

Exporting:
•Email instantaneously your counts in csv files
•Single counts or bulk experiment data
•Export to other iOS devices with HemocyTap: share counts with lab colleagues or keep it as a backup in case you accidentally delete your file.

Viewing and analysing:
•Features a plot option to keep track of how well your culture is performing
•Move counts between folders
•Plots your viability and live cells over time!
•Keep track of cell doubling times between counts
•Access previous counts and check the latest cell numbers of your culture and delete any unwanted counts

Other new features:
•*NEW!* Now supports iOS 11
•*NEW!* Timer to keep track of other lab tasks

Could be super time saving!
It needs to be a bit more customizable for what you count (e.g. able to count only one chamber) but then it will be AWESOME. I hope they make changes soon!
Good app, but would like a bit more.
I use this to count yeast for brewing. I only use the center square for counting. I would love to be able to pick the little squares inside of that center square to track my counts. Overall th app works great and I prefer over a manual counter.
Great New Updates
If you are a brewer and counting yeast cells this app is now for you. The updates allow you to count the center square and is preset to calculate in that mode. This app not only makes cell counting easier by keeping track of your live and dead cells but does the calculations for you while storing your data and easily exporting it via an email attachment that opens in Excel. It also calculates final volume for a target density making pitching rate calculation a breeze. A word of caution: HemocyTap calculations assume you have made sample to diluent ratios, not sample to total. So for example if you make a 1:10 dilution by adding 1 ml of your sample to 9 ml of diluent you would set your dilution ratio to 1:9 the get the correct cells/ml count.
Neat idea, not for all applications
Maybe this is brewer specific. I tried using it to count granulated leucocytes in a veterinary lab and it fell short. I could not make it register all 9 primary squares. It doesnt have an alarm (that I could find) to allert you when youve hit a specified number of cells, In my case I want to know when Ive hit 100 without having to look up from the scope. I dont need the dead cell counter but it is usefull for counting the cells on the grid on the other side of the slide. I did find it a good alternative to give my thumb a rest from the standard counter.
wish there was more customizability
I downloaded this to use in cell culture as my lab is new and doesnt have a clicker. This is the best of the apps ive found as far as having a nice "click" sound and having a big button that makes it easy to count with while looking through the microscope (also tried zappy and invitrogen free apps). However, the lack of true customizability is irritating and caused me to plate 5 x more cells than I should have this weekend. The fact that you have to count all five squares to use the dilution calculator and it averages that is annoying. I want to count just one big square, the middle one, and have it give me the cell density based on that, not on some pre-selected sub-square. Please make the app so I can tell it exactly which squares Im counting while Im inside the counter, rather than hidden behind settings, and not even allowing for full customization.
